Thanksgiving is nearly upon us, and I want to wish all peace and joy and know you join me in praying for the families and friends of those murdered in Paris. We all feel a great sense of loss. We cannot let the murderers stop us — they must not stop us — from living our lives. We will stand shoulder to shoulder with those in Paris. It is a war we are facing.

I didn’t know at the time what a pioneer Lela Swift was. All I knew was she was a loving force with a wonderful smile who took me by the hand and guided me through my first role on television. I loved her. I never thanked her enough. Women are still fighting, and can find never-ending inspiration from dear Lela.

At night, when we lay our heads on the pillow (if we are lucky to have one), our eyes closed, may we see the light of Christmas. It is as when we were all children and the world was ours.
That light is in your eyes, knowing and bright. That light will lead us back to those cold, snowy, rosy cheek winter nights as we gather for yet another sleigh ride over the rolling fields of life, singing “The First Noel” and “peace on earth.”
It warms my heart to have you in my life, to hear and feel that child’s light. That child within who is always there.
